Where do I find the user data?

The plus software distinguishes between system data and user data. During installation, these default paths are used:

SYMplus™ with plusCARE™

• System data: c:\program files (x86)\KELLER\KELLERplusDE or .\KELLERplusFE *
• User data: %appdata%\KELLER\KELLERplusDE\DATASD or .\KELLERplusFE\DATASF

The variable %appdata% usually stands for c:\users\%username%\appdata\roaming

During installation the path of the user data is stored in file dir.dat in the system data folder.

A default set of user data will be stored as zip file in the system data folder during installation. If there are no user data from a previous installation the software will unpack this zip file when the user starts the software for the first time.

In order to be independent from a certain local computer the path stored in dir.dat can be changed to e.g. a home directory of each user on a server (like for example H:\CNC\KELLER\DATASF). Starting with Release 44 there is no need to copy the default set of user data for each user in this case as this is done automatically (as described above).

During installation the path of the user data is stored in file dir.dat in the system data folder.

While editing the system data is not allowed after completion of the installation (or requires administrator rights, e.g. to install updates) each user must have read and write permission for the user data (incl. subfolders). If users (students) use a computer in rotation with other users it is useful not to store the user data in .\users\public but in the home directory of each user.

The administraor can make this change afterwards, too, simply by copying a default user data folder (.\DATASD for Turning and .\DATASF for Milling) into the home directory of each user and by changing the path stored in dir.dat accordingly.

Note that the path in dir.dat is independent from the user. Therefore the home directories of all users must be mapped identically (example h:\CNC\KELLER\DATASD). Environmental variables can be used within the path in dir.dat.

If the entry in dir.dat is wrong an error message will be displayed when starting the software: "As no user data has been found ...". Please check and correct the path in dir.dat then.
