Setup a Proxy for CmWAN licenses

Last change: Jul 12, 2022

CmWAN and Proxy

To use a CmWAN license, access to the Internet is required, specifically, an HTTPS connection to our license server cmwan.keller-cloud.com
Here, the case may arise that such access is only allowed via proxy.
To set up a proxy for the KELLER software, two basic steps are required:

System proxy setup

  • Open the Windows settings and select "Network and Internet".
  • Now select the item "Proxy" on the left side.
  • Here please set up the proxy you need.

It is possible that a proxy is already configured here. In this case you do not need to do anything further.

CodeMeter Runtime customization

  • Call the "CodeMeter Control Center".
  • In the lower right corner you will find a button "WebAdmin".
  • In the "CodeMeter WebAdmin" you will find the settings for the proxy under "Settings" -> "Basic" -> "Proxy".
  • Select "Manual proxy configuration".
  • Now you can enter the data of your proxy.
  • Via "Apply" your settings will be activated.
  • Note: There is also the option "Use proxy system settings", but you should use the "Manual proxy configuration".

Important:
The connection to the license server uses the HTTPS protocol, so depending on the proxy software used, additional steps may be required. For this, please refer to the documentation of your proxy.

The DNS servers used by the client must also be able to resolve all external addresses.

In particular, it may be necessary to install special certificates on the client. Here it must be noted that the CodeMeter Runtime is usually set up as a system service. The certificates may therefore have to be installed twice, once for the user and once for the system service.
In this context, the Windows tool "certlm.msc" (instead of "certmgr.msc") could be helpful.
